Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, the Certification Body for More than 58,000, Celebrates 50 Years of Championing Pediatric Nursing Excellence
Anniversary highlights dedication to advancing pediatric nursing for more than half a century
ROCKVILLE, Md., (Feb. 11, 2025) The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), the certification body for more than 58,000 nursing professionals, will proudly celebrate its 50th anniversary throughout 2025. The celebration recognizes the extraordinary work of pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners working toward the vision of a healthier world, one child at a time. To mark its impact, PNCB will host a series of events to commemorate this milestone and recognize the outstanding contributions of pediatric nursing professionals to child health.
"This milestone represents more than just organizational longevity – it reflects the transformation of pediatric nursing into an increasingly specialized field essential for children's healthcare," said Amanda Vickers, DNP, RN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, PNCB Board Chair. "Our collaboration with key partners like the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN), the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (AFPNP), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has been crucial in elevating standards of care for young patients nationwide."
The pediatric nursing community is invited to the anniversary celebrations in conjunction with the NAPNAP 46th National Conference on Pediatric Health Care in Chicago March 10-13, 2025, and the SPN 35th Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. April 30 - May 2, 2025. Conference registration is required to attend the anniversary events.
PNCB's dedication to advancing the competence and capabilities of nurses who care for children is demonstrated by its four flagship credential programs. PNCB currently certifies more than 31,000 Certified Pediatric Nurses (CPN), more than 5,200 Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (CPNP-AC), more than 21,000 Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (CPNP-PC), and more than 900 Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialists (PMHS).
Our commitment to innovating and supporting the professional growth of the pediatric nursing profession continues as PNCB focuses on expanding access to high-quality credentialing and educational opportunities, fostering ongoing collaboration within the pediatric nursing community, and championing high standards of care for pediatric patients. In this celebratory year, PNCB is actively engaged in two key initiatives: examining credentialing trends and best practices in diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility; and exploring global trends in pediatric care.
