Over the past 50 years, pediatric nursing has significantly evolved from a focus on basic caregiving to a specialized field emphasizing family-centered care, evidence-based practice, and advanced clinical skills.
This transformation is significantly attributed to the groundbreaking work of Dr. Loretta Ford, who recently passed at the age of 104. Her work with pediatrician Dr. Henry Silver, co-founding the first nurse practitioner program in 1965 at the University of Colorado, revolutionized healthcare delivery by expanding the scope of nursing practice and increasing access to quality care for children.
