While we cannot eliminate cognitive bias, ultimate knowledge lies in knowing what you don’t know. Identifying types of cognitive bias, thinking about how they could affect decision making, and reviewing mitigation strategies, especially in the context of pediatric patients, will help you think about the way you think.
Learning objectives:
- Define different types of cognitive biases
- Examine how cognitive bias affects clinical decision making
- Review strategies to mitigate bias
- Describe how pediatric development affects patients’ cognitive bias in reporting and interactions, and how caregivers’ cognitive bias plays a role in the unique pediatric healthcare relationship
